Field Notes
Last Saturday, we heard from many of you that are enjoying our recipes. That is fantastic. I’ll admit- I was worried that we were doing all this hard work of collecting recipes and printing them out for naught. However, on Saturday we got a lot of positive feedback on our Sauteed Greens recipe. I hope you all liked the Raspberry Bread Pudding, too. This week we’re focusing on our green beans with an unusual recipe- Roasted Green Beans with Pine Nuts and Parmesan. Besides green beans, we’ll also offer some of the other ingredients for this recipe- fresh garlic and parsley to go with it. I recommend it for Saturday night dinner.

Tomatoes are hanging on the vine. Did I see a hint of yellow on a few, or are my eyes deceiving me? I can not wait for the tomato sandwiches of summer. Oh, the spaghetti sauce and salsa we will make. And soup! This will be a good summer. Start collecting canning jars and freezer containers. We’ve got tomato recipes that you’ll be able to enjoy all year round.

This week our effort has been on taming the tubers. The potatoes are finally all hilled up and they’re blooming with the most delicate flowers. Harvey began mulching them, and now the potato field looks completely different from last week. We’ve also started planning for our fall crops. Now is the time to plant Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli and another round of lettuces. The spring-planted cabbage and broccoli are starting to form, so keep your fingers crossed, and we’ll be harvesting them soon enough.

Enjoy some pictures of this week’s adventure and we’ll see you on Saturday!

Hi Claire- We probably won’t have time to get the recipe up online anytime soon. However, we have a couple extra copies, so I’ll bring one for you this weekend.
